A Call to Action

Many of you that visit this site are well aware of the Hockey Revolution.

It’s what we at Hockey Primetime and, by proxy, Wild Nation strive for.  To spread the game to absolutely everyone.  To bring the game to places it might not otherwise be.  To spread the knowledge of the game that we so boldly think is the greatest sport on earth.

With that in mind, I would invite and encourage each and every person reading this post to click on the link that is at the bottom.  To go and donate.

One blog that I frequently read is Kukla’s Korner’s Abel to Yzerman.

Now before you crucify me for this, I get it.  They’re the “Evil Empire.”  They’re the Detroit Red Wings.  The blog’s writer, the Chief, is largely abrasive and uncompromising in the way he writes.

Odds are that somewhere in the last year, he’s probably written something about your team that has offended you in some way or another.

But you know what?

He doesn’t care, because he doesn’t write for you.  He writes for the 19.  The legion of Red Wings fans that visit his blog on a daily basis.

But say what you will about the Chief, his blogs are never bland.  They’re never boring.  They’re always entertaining.

Now, last week, a certain Wild blogger had the misfortune of crossing Chief and the 19 and a storm erupted around the two sites.

I shared my two cents on the bit and I won’t revisit it out of courtesy to both blogs.  Who was right, who was wrong.  It doesn’t really matter.

What matters is what came out of it.

Amidst the pissing match that ensued came a story of a Red Wings fan named Guilherme.  He’s a diehard Red Wings fan who has never once been to a Wings game.  He’s never once been to Joe Louis Arena.  Never once watched a Wings game on anything but television.

Because he lives in Brazil.

The 19 found out about this and instantly they began talking about how they should get the guy to a Wings game.  For most this would be just idle chatter.

I mean, how many times have you asked yourself “How cool would it be…” or “Wouldn’t it be great…”

We ask ourselves that on a daily basis and rarely act upon it.  But one member of the 19 decided that “Herm” needed to see a Wings game.  That he needed to experience Joe Louis Arena for himself.

As the Chief put it:

The kid’s gonna see the Gordie statue. He’s gonna smell the stale beer aromas of Joe Louis Arena.  He’s going to see the blur that is Darren Helm, all in person.

So, Wild Nation, I put it to you.  Let’s put aside our differences and let’s help A2Y out with this Christmas wish for Herm.

Thanks for the helper on this one, man. Much appreciated. We reached our goal in just under thirty hours. Amazing, and the donations weren’t just from Wing fans due to the efforts of blogs like this one.

First of all, I’m glad to help out for this cause. This is truly a great thing to see happening, and I am more than happy to help in any way that I can.

As far as making it to the game with some Wings fans from the Land of 10,000 Lakes, I’ll have to see what I can do, but I’m definitely interested.

Also, I’ve gotta say thanks for making the game a Wild game…If nothing else, he gets to see the two true hockey towns of the US fight it out!
