Random Musings

As you all know, usually I just stick to my impressions on the Wild, but I’m going to be honest with you.  The team has had four days off.  There’s not a whole hell of a lot to write about.

Sooooooooo…….

You are now all to be subjected to my thoughts on the NHL in general for a little while.

Try not to wet yourselves in excitement.

  • For those who haven’t seen, check out my analysis of the Phoenix Coyotes situation over at the Bleacher Report.  Be warned, though…There are some fairly Makeit7.ca biased comments.  But let’s be honest…It’s about as fun as skeet shooting…
  • Am I the only person who is impressed with Matt Moulson so far this season?  I mean, sure…A nutless monkey could do his job.  But six goals, 11 points and plus-2 for the season?  Could it be that he really is this good?
  • Call me crazy, but I still think that the Phoenix Coyotes will make the playoffs this season.  One month and change into the season, they’re 9-6-0, and just five points from their division lead — not to mention leading both the Dallas Stars and Anaheim Ducks in the standings.  True, they can’t score goals.  But they don’t need to with the way they’re playing defense.  And, let’s be honest, do you think that Dave Tippett has just a tiny chip on his shoulder, playing in the same division as the team that inexplicably fired him during the off season?
  • Only Sean Avery is so damn annoying that he could incite someone to spear him while on the bench.
  • As much as the Red Wings claim to have a vested interest in trying to see if Jimmy Howard is a suitable back up in the NHL, does anyone else think that Josh Harding will be wearing a Red Wings sweater by the trade deadline?
  • Resident Wild bowling ball Cal Clutterbuck is back to his old tricks.  If he remains healthy for the rest of the season, he’s actually on pace to break his hits record from last season…In one less game.
  • Puck Daddy posted his Five Best and Worst hockey jerseys of the last decade.  My question?  Where does the monstrosity that was the New York Islanders third jersey land?  Or the pea soup stylings of the Nashville Predators?
  • There seems to be some speculation as to whether or not Peter Forsberg will return to the NHL.  Really?  Are we going through this again?  I understand that Forsberg is an entirely different case than Sundin was last season (i.e. Forsberg wants to play, but hasn’t been healthy enough to), but I’m sick of all of these players flip flopping as to where they want to play, then coming in at the trade deadline and playing 2 months out of the season.  Maybe it’s time for the NHL to institute some sort of rule stating that if you’re not signed by a certain date, you can only sign for the league minimum with no bonuses or incentives.

Well, there you have it.  Some of my random musings.  I hope you enjoyed it and I’ll be back sometime tomorrow with some game thoughts.
